OWIN Summer Meeting Review
The Ohio Wood Industry Network (OWIN) Annual Summer Meeting was held in the Chillicothe, Ohio area on July 20 and 21, 2016.
Wednesday, July 20 kicked off with business meetings of the OFA Executive Committee, OFA Board of Trustees, and the Logging Standards Council.
After a break for lunch, everyone departed for the afternoon tours at Sherwood Forest Products in Waverly, and Speyside Bourbon Cooperage in Jackson. At Sherwood Forest Products the 90+ attendees had the opportunity to see white oak logs being turned into staves for bourbon barrels. We then moved on to Speyside Bourbon Cooperage where we got to see how those barrel staves are turned into individual bourbon barrels, charred and ready to be shipped to the distillery. Many folks commented on how interesting it was to be able to follow a process from the log to the finished product in an afternoon tour.
Wednesday was capped off with an industry reception back at the Christopher Conference Center in Chillicothe.
Thursday’s activities included a golf outing at Dogwood Hills Country Club outside Waverly and a Trap Shoot at nearby Pike County Coon Hunters Association shooting club. There were approximately 50 golfers and 30 shooters that attending these activities.
The OWIN Summer Meeting activities concluded with a reception and dinner at the Stillwater Event Center (old Mead Foremen’s Club).
