Lumberman’s Outing a Great Success
Last week, just over 100 folks gathered in Wayne County to play golf, shoot sporting clays, and eat a great meal. But most importantly, they came together to raise money to help a neighbor in need. Each year, the lumbermen of east central Ohio raise funds to help one of their own. This year, the person in need was Jerry Miller, young son of Wayne and Leah Miller of Dundee, Ohio. Jerry was severely burned in an accident at the home. The final tally isn’t completed yet, but it looks like this year’s event raised around $14,000 that will be used to help offset a small portion of Jerry’s medical expenses. ODNR News Release Urges Caution Around Dead and Dying Ash Trees
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, recently sent out a news release urging landowners to be very cautious in the woods this fall and winter, because of the hazards presented by the millions of dead and dying ash trees as the result of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation. People hiking and hunting in the woods, and even around yard trees, need to be aware of the potential for falling limbs and trees, especially in a windy environment. **90’ Norway Spruce Needed**
OFA received the following email from an event producer in Montreal, Canada, who is looking for a large Norway Spruce for an event celebrating the 375th anniversary of the city. If you know of the tree he is referencing, or know of another that would work for him, his phone number is at the end of the following:
"I'm a event producer in Montreal and this year is going to be the 375th anniversary of the City. We are looking for a Huge Christmas tree to setup in downtown Montreal for the occasion. A Norway Spruce that would be about 90 feet tall. While doing some research on the Internet I found that in 1987, the Ohio Forestry Association recorded a 90-foot tall specimen of the Norway Spruce in Summit County, Ohio. Do you guys think you could help us find the tree? Don't hesitate to call me to talk about it! 514-566-1719 Philippe"
