Forest Markets Weekly Newsletter
The National Association of State Foresters' Forest Markets Committee releases a Weekly Newsletter full of all things Forestry and Forest Products Industry related. Each week’s newsletter has articles about: Forest Markets, Housing, Working Forests, New Products and Technology, and Renewable Energy. John Dorka found the following article of interest in this week’s newsletter. Economic Impact of U.S. Forest Products Industry. The U.S. Forest Products Industry has an immense impact on the nation’s economy, one that the average citizen is totally unaware of. According to information provided by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), the forest products industry contributes approximately 4% of the U.S. manufacturing GDP, with over $200 billion of products manufactured annually. More than 900,000 employees have a combined $50 billion payroll. AF&PA has provided a useful map of the U.S where you can click on individual states to see the economic impact of the forest products industry in each state. (Information from Forest Markets Report.)

Primary Job Objective: This position is responsible for serving as a technical expert with regard to the use and application of Franklin’s products and supporting internal and external customers.

Targeted Education and Experience: Technical BS degree (wood technology preferred) with 0 – 3 years of experience. Must have mechanical aptitude for designing, operating, and troubleshooting product dispensing, testing and processing equipment. Analytical skills necessary to identify and resolve problems, as well as superior written and oral communication skills are required.

Register Now for the AHEC Pavilion at Dubai Wood Show
The American Hardwood Export Council(AHEC) announces that registration is open for exhibiting at the Dubai Wood Show on March 7-9, 2017. Space is allocated on a first come, first served basis. They will be allowing up to 14 individual booths. Booth size is 3m x 3m and includes storage space, table and chairs, company name and logo on fascia, and space for individual branding. The total cost for each booth is $500.

The State of Ohio also offers an IMAGE Grant to receive a 50% reimbursement on your exhibit, travel, hotel, and marketing material costs for the show.

Nanotechnology and the Forest Products Industry: Commercial Opportunities

Recent Notes from Ohio Department of Natural Resources(ODNR)

Department approves nearly $15 million in funding through Clean Ohio Trail Funds, NatureWorks, and the Recreational Trails Programs. Director James Zehringer said in a statement about these grants, "By pursuing additional opportunities for Ohioans to enjoy the outdoors, these communities are investing in their overall health and in preserving the outdoor experience for our kids and grandkids. ODNR is proud to partner with the park districts, counties, cities and towns in Ohio that seek to create more outdoor recreational activities for the people in their communities." These grants include additions of, and improvements to, trails – both motorized and unmotorized, trailhead facilities, parking lots, bridges, playgrounds, shelters, park restrooms, ball fields, splash pads, and more.

Oil & Gas Resources Division reports that a total of 2,277 Utica Shale permits have been issued as of October 22, 2016. This is an increase of nine since the week before. A total of 1,834 wells have been drilled, with 1,414 wells in production.

Disabled Veterans Archery Deer Hunt – The department hosted 15 disabled veterans for a guided hunt on the weekend of Oct. 7, at Zaleski State Forest. All 15 hunters were successful, harvesting 16 does and 5 bucks in total. "These unique archery hunts give us the chance to honor and show our appreciation for veterans who have sacrificed to defend and protect us," said Robert Boyles, Ohio's state forester. "We are pleased to partner with the Buckeye Hero Hunt Committee for our Ohio veterans who have given so much to help preserve our freedoms."
