|Record Hardwood Lumber Exports for 2016, Continued Growth Expected for 2017|
The "Hardwood Leader” s reporting that hardwood lumber exports for 2016 will set record numbers for volume exported. 2017 could see new records, as China’s economy is expected to continue at a growth rate of nearly 7%, and China accounts for over 50% of the hardwood lumber export market. There was also an improvement in domestic hardwood demand in 2016 over 2015. The "Hardwood Leader” is also forecasting an increase in demand for domestic hardwood lumber in 2017, as an anticipated Trump bounce in both the economy and in consumer confidence should cause an acceleration.

|Brad’s Safety Comments|
This past Friday evening through Saturday morning brought the first real freezing rain of the season to central Ohio. Driving was obviously going to be treacherous Saturday morning, but as I went outside to reload the bird and squirrel feeders, I realized that even walking at that time had the potential to be treacherous. Since I just came off knee surgery, and my body is not as amenable to falling as it was when I was younger, I decided to take a moment to plan my traverse. I looked for flat ground to walk on. I looked for areas under trees that had not seen the freezing rain hit the ground. I looked for grassy or gravelly areas that would give me better traction than sloped, ice covered concrete. And I moved slowly and deliberately. I finished the task unscathed. Slips, Trips and Falls are one of the leading causes of injuries in the home and workplace. It is even more of a problem in the winter. Check out the Winter Slips, Trips and Falls Safety bulletin for ways to help avoid these problems for the rest of the winter.
