OFA Adds Student Membership Category
The Ohio Forestry Association has recently added a Student Membership category to the association’s membership ranks. This membership is open to all high school and college students. The annual dues are $25. A student membership in OFA will give students immediate access to employment opportunities by giving them contact information of OFA member companies that need young people as employees, through its Membership Directory. It can also give them direct access to these same companies at OFA’s annual membership events and meetings. Student members will also receive educational benefits through the information provided in the weekly TimberTalk on-line newsletter and the quarterly Ohio Woodland Journal magazine. They will also receive 2 Paul Bunyan Show tickets. Spread the word to any high school or college student that is interested in forestry and other natural resource fields. They can apply on-line.

TEAM Safe Trucking (TST) Launches Revamped Website
If you attended the OFA Annual Meeting in March, you probably heard Jimmie Locklear’s talk about Team Safe Trucking, and the concerns with trucker training, education, and insurance availability problems throughout our forest products industry. TST launched their revamped website in March of 2017. Ultimately, it will have lots of tools on it to help advance the strength and standing of the log and chip trucking business. It will have resources matched to helping in recruitment and retaining of truck drivers; materials to help owners become more proactive in their fleet management, suggestions for improving truck operation efficiencies; and ideas for enhancing the public image of the wood trucking industry. The final draft of TST’s comprehensive truck driver training module is almost completed and will be available on the website soon. Check out their website.

Brad’s Safety Comments
“Keep hot foods hot…and cold foods cold” is what we were always taught when it came to food safety. With all the picnics and cookouts that families will be engaging in during the warm summer months, it is vitally important to handle food and leftovers properly to keep from getting food poisoning. Here is a very good food safety article produced by the FDA and printed in the Morning Ag Clips on-line newsletter. Check it out!
