This workshop will present the history of the American chestnut, through its dominance of the Appalachian Mountains, its virtual demise, and to the current efforts for the species’ restoration.

Topics include:
• American chestnut, past, present and future
• Site selection, your first consideration as a grower
• Establishment of American chestnut from seed and seedlings
• Seedling protection and after-care
• Common chestnut diseases and pests
• Participation in ongoing site evaluation and pest surveys

• Other "Citizen Science” opportunities

Those who attend will discover available educational resources, will meet people with similar interests, and will have an opportunity to contribute to a worthy goal.

BONUS: participants will receive at least one, "pure” American  chestnut seedling as well as some American chestnut seeds to plant the following spring (these trees are not blight-resistant).

Admission to the Paul Bunyan Show is not included in the workshop fee.  There is a daily entrance fee to the Paul Bunyan Show of $8 for adults and $4 for seniors and kids.
