Forest Markets Weekly Newsletter
The National Association of State Foresters' Forest Markets Committee releases a Weekly Newsletter full of all things Forestry and Forest Products Industry related. Each week’s newsletter has articles about: Forest Markets, Housing, Working Forests, New Products and Technology, and Renewable Energy. This week’s newsletter contains an interesting article on what saw mills might look like in the future. See the complete newsletter here
TeamSafeTrucking (TST) Owner/Driver Training Module 1 Now Available
TeamSafeTrucking has recently released Module 1 of its Owner/Driver training series. This module provides basic information on the FMCSA rules and regulations that apply to log truck drivers and managers. Module 2 -  Behind the Wheel - In-woods and on-the-road driving safety, and Module 3 - Problems on the Road & Mill Safety - on-the-road and mill driving safety, will be available soon. I believe that at least 5 modules are planned for this series.  Follow these 3 steps to access this training module:

3.    create an account to access “ONLINE TRAINING”

Woodlands and Wildlife Workshop
Each year, the Ohio River Valley Woodlands and Wildlife Workshop rotates between states in the tri-state are of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. This year’s workshop will be held in Loveland, Ohio, at the Oasis Golf Club and Conference Center, on March 17, 2018. Wayne National Forest Announces Prescribed Fire Plans
The Wayne National Forest uses fire to help maintain healthy oak forests, which benefits many native plants, birds and other wildlife.They recently published press releases on their plans to use prescribed burning in the Athens and Ironton Ranger Districts. See the press releases for details on dates and locations.
“Camp Canopy” Video Released
There is now a short video on the Ohio Forestry Association’s “Camp Canopy” available for viewing by the public on YouTube. This is a very well done, short video showing and explaining this vibrant summer camp experience. Watch the video, then share it with as many students and youth leaders as possible.

The Ohio Forestry Association Foundation continuous to roll out products from its in-depth branding review and media restructuring. One of those products is an e-newsletter that addresses all things “Camp Canopy”. Check out the newsletter, and subscribe to receive it to keep in the loop on what is happening at camp. 
Ohio Wood Products Database
The Appalachian Partnership for Economic Growth (APEG) recently released their Ohio Wood Products Database. This is a comprehensive database dedicated to the forest and wood products community. Key features of the website include: Virtual marketplace with vendor storefronts; Job postings, events calendar, news and forums, and; Support staff to create and manage your digital presence. SOFA has put out their March 2018 newsletter. Read all about their activities, their upcoming events schedule, and more here. 
Concrete Infused With Cellulose Nanocrystals Finally Making it to Real-World Testing
Researchers at Purdue University have been studying the many beneficial effects of infusing concrete with nanocrystals made from byproducts of the paper, bioenergy, agriculture and pulp industries. These benefits include greater strength, less weight, and carbon sequestration, among others. A bridge will be built in California this spring to give this new product a chance to be tested under real-world conditions, not just as a laboratory experiment.
