Forest Markets Weekly Newsletter
The National Association of State Foresters' Forest Markets Committee releases a Weekly Newsletter full of all things Forestry and Forest Products Industry related. Each week’s newsletter has articles about: Forest Markets, Housing, Working Forests, New Products and Technology, and Renewable Energy. This week’s newsletter contains an article about Greenpeace leaving the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). See the complete newsletter here.

Safety Update from Ohio BWC Library
Here is the March 2018 Safety Update from the Ohio BWC Library. It contains information on many work related safety topics, including a Tree Care Hazards Sheet, as well as safety for the home such as an entertaining video on Kitchen Safety.

Trail Reroute Project to Improve Perry County Hiking Experience
The Wayne National Forest recently approved the rerouting of the Buckeye Trail/North Country National Scenic Trail in southern Perry County. Six segments will be rerouted to improve both safety and the hiking experience. Read the full press release.

USDA REAP Grant Application Deadline
April 30, 2018 – The following information was recently sent to us by Randy Monhemius, Business Program Specialist with USDA/ Rural Development, concerning the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant applications.

The spring deadline for applications will now be April 30, 2018. Applications must be in their office at 200 N High St, Room 507, Columbus, OH 43215 by 4:30PM eastern on April 30th. They are accepting applications with any size grant up to $500,000 for renewable energy projects and a max of $250,000 for energy efficiency projects.  The minimum grant amounts are $2,500 for renewable and $1,500 for energy efficiency. Grant requests may be for 25% of total, eligible project costs.  Applications must be submitted prior to any payments or work being done.

Ohio BWC Employer Seminars
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) is holding two employer webinars in April. These webinars will be covering information about their Destination Excellence programs. Following is the info we received from BWC:

Please join us for the April BWC employer webinar. This month we'll cover information about our Destination Excellence programs; the upcoming estimated annual premium notices for the policy year that begins July 1; keeping your contact information current with BWC; Better You, Better Ohio! Program; and our monthly safety tip.

The webinars will last approximately 20 minutes. You can view the webinars from the comfort of your office or attend in person at one of BWC’s claims offices. By attending in person, you'll have the opportunity to meet with a BWC representative.

FDR’s Forest Army
A recent edition of the Morning Ag Clips Newsletter had a great article on the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), created 85 years ago on April 5, 1933. Many consider this to be the seed that started the modern environmental movement. Read this interesting historical article here.
