Forest Markets Weekly Newsletters
The National Association of State Foresters' Forest Markets Committee releases a Weekly Newsletter full of all things Forestry and Forest Products Industry related. Each week’s newsletter has articles about: Forest Markets, Housing, Working Forests, New Products and Technology, and Renewable Energy. This week’s newsletter contains an interesting article about how Canadian purchases of U. S. sawmills could drive lumber prices higher.          

Mary Mertz Announced as Director of Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR)
On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, Governor Elect, Mike DeWine announced that current first assistant attorney general, Mary Mertz, has been tapped to be the new Director of ODNR. During the George Voinovich administration, Mertz was the Governor’s liaison to eight state agencies in the environmental, natural resources, and criminal justice areas. USDA Forest Service Provides 2018 Timber Tax Tips
The United States Department of Agriculture recently released publication offering tax tips for forest landowners for the 2018 tax year. 

Hardwood Pruning Workshop – Noble County SWCD
The Noble County SWCD will be hosting  a pruning workshop, focusing on Black Walnut, at the Ball-Caldwell House on December 8, 2018. The workshop will run from 9 AM – 11 AM, and lite morning refreshments will be served. Please call to RSVP: 740-732-4318

The WORK SAFE article, reprinted from the November 2018 edition of the Northern Logger and Timber Processor magazine, gives example of fatalities that happened at a job site and at a paper mill that could easily have been avoided. Use these examples to keep yourself, your coworkers, and your employees safe, so that everyone can go home to their families at the end of the day in the same condition that they left in the morning.

Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Employer Webinars for December
The following announcement concerning upcoming Employer Webinars for December is from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

Please join us for the December BWC Employer Webinar. This month we will cover reportable remuneration (what payroll is reportable to BWC), important policy and program dates for public and private employers, Policy Activity Rebate (PAR) Program, the new pilot Opioid Workplace Safety Program and our monthly safety tip. The webinar will last approximately 20 minutes. You can view the webinar from the comfort of your office or attend in person at one of BWC’s claims offices. By attending in person, you will have the opportunity to meet with a BWC representative.
