House AG Committee votes to accept Herrera-Beutler/Schrader Amendment 107 ("Forest Roads”) in the Farm Bill.
Today, in action on the Farm Bill, the House Agricultural Committee accepted Amendment 107, proposed by Congresswoman. Jaime Herrera-Beutler (R-WA) and Cong. Kurt Schrader (D-OR), involving the permanent exemption of forest roads from Clean Water Act point-source permitting (NPDES). This is a huge win in the on-going battle to prevent unnecessary Clean Water Act regulation of forest roads. But this is just a battle and work continues on the war, as the Farm Bill is not yet passed. The amendment will accomplish the same thing that the Silviculture Regulatory Consistency Act (H.R. 2026) intended to do. You can read more about the issue here.
