Congratulations to Michael Bell and Elliott Smith, the winners of the 2019 Memorial Scholarships!

The deadline for the 2020 E.B. Miller Memorial Scholarship is April 15, 2020. All submissions received after this date will be considered for the 2021 Scholarship.

E. B. MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This program offers financial assistance to students pursuing a forest resource education. Currently, one or more scholarships are offered each year to Ohio high school graduates who have been accepted into an approved university, college, junior college or technical university offering a forest resource curriculum.

The initial gift to the OFAF Scholarship Fund was made in memory of E. B. Miller, a third generation sawmill man and untiring promoter of Ohio’s forest industry. Mr. Miller began his logging career using horses and sawing lumber with steam powered sawmills. Before his career ended with his death in 1992, Mr. Miller had owned and operated sawmills in all four corners of Ohio.

Mr. Miller’s belief in the importance of education is illustrated by his involvement in the development of the forestry curriculum at Hocking Technical College. Furthermore, as an indication of his commitment to the forest industry in Ohio, Mr. Miller was chairman of the OFA Paul Bunyan Show for more than a decade.

In memorializing Mr. Miller with their gift to the OFAF Scholarship Fund, the founders believe that the forest industry must continually strive to attract the most talented people to our discipline. The future will always require highly qualified professionals to address the industry’s challenges. For these reasons, the OFA Scholarship Fund was established to offer monetary assistance toward forest resource education to exceptional individuals.

The purpose of the Ohio Forestry Memorial Scholarship is to provide assistance toward forest resource education to quality students.

Funds awarded may be used to pay or defray the cost of tuition, room, board, and/or laboratory fees.

The Scholarship(s) awards are grants with no requirement for repayment. The size and number of grant awards will be based on the return on investments from  previous years. Students are eligible to win multiple years, but must re-apply each year. A minimum of one Scholarship will be awarded each year.

To be eligible for this scholarship grant, the applicant must be an Ohio resident, U.S. citizen and high school graduate accepted for admission to an approved college or university, junior college, or technical college with a two year minimum program in forestry resources. Current college students must provide evidence of satisfactory scholastic advancement.

Selection of grant recipients will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation. Preference will be given to students attending Ohio Colleges and Universities.

Deadline for applications will be April 15 each year. Grant recipients will be announced the first week in June.

Applications for the 2020 Memorial Scholarship will be accepted until April 15, 2020. You may also apply on line by completing the form below, or you may print and submit this form. You must be an Ohio resident, have attended an Ohio high school and be pursuing an education in forest resources to be eligible for this scholarship. If you do not meet all of the aforementioned criteria your submission will be eliminated.
